The suburb is almost all separate houses, most of them raised from the late 1970s once the old quarry land was opened for homes. That makes for a newer pipe stock than much of the Forest, but four decades still tell on the earliest builds.

That local read means a quicker diagnosis and less time hunting for a shut-off on a big block, so a fault after dark gets sorted without a long wait.

Because the streets were opened for housing from the late 1970s, the pipe stock here is newer than most of the district, though forty years of bush-block life still leave their mark. Roots off the reserves and slab movement on the sandstone are the usual culprits.

Around Maitland Street and the streets off Prahran Avenue, the calls lean toward blocked drains and the odd slab leak rather than the burst mains of older suburbs.
